The purpose of this page is simply to motivate myself. Finishing projects has always been a challenge for me. Like a lot of artists, it's difficult to step across that threshold from "in progress" to complete. In fact, in rummaging around my studio, I found things I forgot I ever started.
My current top priority project is Hidden Deer. I created the composition from images of deer, wildflowers, insects and a spider web that I hope will become an interesting painting. It is large at 45 by 45, and at this point I am only at the black-and-white underpainting stage. It will require many paint layers and months of work, but my goal is to reflect the grace and dignity of the deer who frequent our yard, and to surround this deer with foliage and other natural elements that protect her from the things that unsettle her.
This is an in-progress textile piece of a woodpecker head. I abandoned it for a while because I wasn't finding the emotional connection I wanted. But after finishing my painting of Woodpeckers (on my finished work-painting page) I started thinking of this guy as abandoned. He deserves a better effort to make him complete. Stay tuned.
