I included this section to remind myself that I don't want to miss the opportunity to work in three dimensions. This is my first attempt, but I might try working in clay, found objects, or some other 3-D materials. Then I can change this page title to "sculpture."
A long time ago, I was obsessed with gourds. I encountered some artists who created exquisite sculptures by carving and embellishing them. I went to a gourd farm in Temecula CA and brought home a carload of gourds. I tried to make a bird (a precursor to my Hidden Heron textile?) using a bottleneck gourd and polyclay-crafted feathers, and I even took a class in welding solely to be able to create metal legs. I had moments of satisfaction but in the end, it just never came together.
Instead, I did this carved gourd (approx. 2015), a pleasant venture into sculpture. It is about 14 inches wide and 8 inches tall. I used leather dye, paint, husks, thread, and feathers to embellish it.
The loft in my garden shed is still full of gourds untouched.
