Raven (2024) was a collaboration with my son, Dakota, who loves nature and shares my admiration for birds. It took his creative approach to use a simplified peach-colored sky, and I love its effect on the dark raven. I had to restart this piece several times, but I like the focal point created by the berry and enjoyed every minute of working on it, even the restarts. The finished art is 20 by 14 excluding the black linen frame, and it is stitched entirely by hand.
Tallinn (2023) is a textile collage of a unique dog that belongs to a good friend. His fur and eye color are breathtaking. The finished art is 12 by 12 excluding the black cloth frame, and it was created with fabric and hand stitching.
Alexa's Run (2022) was a fun collaboration with my daughter to capture what she loves about running along the Puget Sound waterfront on a typical overcast day. She chose the muted neutrals which perfectly reflect the mood, and I designed it with fabric strips and hand and machine stitches. The piece is 25 by 39 excluding the frame.
I created Flicker (2023) because I love his freckled chest when he visits my birdfeeder. He makes a startling presence by his size and by his unusual textures and coloring. This piece is 14 by 17 excluding the fabric frame area, and I have combined fabric collage with machine and hand stitching.
Hidden Heron (2021) was my second fabric collage. I occasionally see herons fly past my window above our creek. They are so large, it's like watching a dinosaur fly. When they are at rest, they strike graceful poses with their necks, legs, and beaks. This piece is 20 by 31 excluding the fabric frame area, and it is a combination of fabric, machine stitching, and hand stitching.
This abstract landscape (2018) was the first textile art piece I created. Truth be told, I was never emotionally connected to it, but I learned a lot about the process. It is about 38 by 52 excluding the frame, and it is made from fabrics, hand stitches, beads, buttons and yarn.
